Managing the Able, Gifted and Talented in the Primary School

Catering for children known collectively as higher attainers is a key part of the current emphasis by the DfES on inclusivity. Schools are expected to identify their able (above average) and their gifted and talented (well above average) pupils. The problem is where to start and how to proceed in this daunting managerial task.

The Managing the Able, Gifted and Talented in the Primary School documents provide your school with a ‘tool-kit’ for monitoring and evaluating the needs of these pupil groups to the satisfaction of external inspectors.

The children are invited to consider their own approaches to learning, with such child-friendly aids as ‘learning ladders’, while for the co-ordinator (ABCO), whose challenging job it is to give the lead to colleagues, there is support in the shape of several highly-detailed PowerPoint presentations.

These documents offer a wealth of time-saving blank charts, tables, registers, reports and questionnaires, in addition to many model policies, guidelines and in-depth case studies.
